My first "Fair Isle" project!

I saw this hat on Ravelry and liked it very much, also because it was recommended as a good first "Fair Isle" project. I found it not to be that difficult, although I knitted it a tiny bit to tight. Anyway, I am very happy with the result. I used one ball of Noro Kureyon and one ball in ivory of Lana Grossa "Millefine". You may find the pattern here. I am already knitting the next one! (on bamboo circular needles that is)

SCHOUTEN HANDWERKEN: Van breiwol tot vliegtuigonderdeel / From yarn to airplane parts!

Some time ago Mr. Funcke bought a roll of twill tape in our shop and he told me he was going to use it to restore an historic Fokker airplane! I thought that sounded very interesting, asked him for more info and received an e-mail with a beautiful description of this very special job!

More on this:
When an airplane wing or hull is covered with cloth (irish linen or cotton), it is sewed to the contruction so that it stays in place, flat on the wing/hull, during flight. There are several ways of sewing this but Fokker had his own technique. The first picture shows this technique and that is also the way Mr. Funcke will apply it, using our twill tape, to the Historical Fokker airplane of the Dutch Aviodrome aviation museum.
